When we examine the world of fitness we are often overwhelmed by the constant claims of results that are so appealing that we dive right in head first and hope for the best. I believe that when someone has the courage and desire to undertake a task, like becoming healthier, it is our responsibility as "experts, or professionals" to provide those individuals with the best information and guidance to optimize their lives. One can't help but stumble upon the numerous amounts of infomercials claiming that diets, exercise plans, etc. are guaranteed to produce the results we are all looking for. What we all truly want is to feel great every day. If we can trim some inches and drop some pounds on that journey then that's great also.
Let's closely look at some of the recent fads that are dominating the fitness industry currently. The first would be Crossfit. Since this fad first began, I've been calling it "Crushfit" due to the high level of negligence exhibited in the workouts and the high risk of danger to the individual performing the exercises. Crossfit claims to use "functional" movements and exercises that are going to help you get in great shape quickly. Let me tell you firsthand, there is NOTHING functional about Crossfit. Participants are timed, while performing high risk exercises and then are led to believe that whatever their time is equates to their level of fitness. One thing can be said about Crossfit that is accurate. I haven't seen any fitness program lately that will injure someone quicker. Go on to youtube.com and watch some of the videos on Crossfit. What you'll find are Olympic style lifts being performed by people with horrible joint alignment and muscular imbalances and the instructor has no regard for proper technique or form. They are usually just screaming out how much time you have left before you move on to your next exercise. Sadly, people say that they are "addicted to the rush" provided by these workouts. Are you also addicted to the rotator cuff tears and tendonitis that are sure to follow? There is no doubt that the workouts are challenging. I believe, however, that people shouldn't sacrifice their joints and potentially injure themselves for the rush they get afterwards.
I do not know about you all, but Melinda and I are SUPER pumped about the new training program Turbo fire out! For those of you who have not heard anything, it's like the madness of P90X, but the next level Turbo Jam program. If you have not read my previous post on turbo fire, I said there that I had the chance to see a sample of 10-minute program during the workout group there down in LA I would just say that this program is seriously intense! Read my review Turbo Fire below.
My Turbo Fire Review: From what I experienced 10 minutes, I could test fire with Turbo Chalene Johnson, this program will be great. Now that I'm mad and know what it is, I'd say Turbo fire is very similar in appearance intensity. In just 10 minutes I was already sweating, very similar to what happens to me with the madness warmup. I would say Turbo Fire is a mixture of plyometrics, aerobics, kickboxing, and dance. It is HIIT or high intensity interval training, which is said to burn more calories than regular cardio. As I said earlier, Melinda and I can not wait to get out of this program!...
